Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum

The Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum in Yokohama was founded in 1994 as the world’s first food-themed amusement park. The first floor is devoted to numerous exhibits with a large number of ramen-related displays such as ramen-making utensils, over 300 ramen bowls, ramen shop matchbooks, chopstick wrappers, curtains and aprons, among others. Here, the history of instant ramen is chronicled in fine detail, while the invention of cup ramen is also celebrated. The walls are decorated with instant ramen packets, and overhead TV monitors broadcast a continuous stream of ramen commercials from the past 25 years. In addition, there are two life-size dioramas showing the operation of an instant ramen factory and banks of interactive video panels for visitors to enjoys. Younger visitors are also entertained with Ramen-themed video games.

Located on two underground levels is a theme park recreating the downtown area of Tokyo in 1958, a time when the popularity of ramen was rapidly increasing. Nine ramen restaurants can be found there, each featuring a distinctive ramen dish from a different region of Japan. Each restaurant offers its signature dish in smaller portions so visitors can enjoy multiple types of ramen, while take-out packages of noodles are also available. In addition, there is a souvenir shop full of ramen-themed gifts on the ground floor for visitors to take home.
