Ise - “Tokowaka-kon” Trip

Introducing the "Tokowaka-kon" sightseeing program of Ise City in Mie Prefecture.

Ise City in Mie Prefecture is steeped in history and culture. "Tokowaka" is a phrase associated with Ise Jingu, which has roots here that go back 2,000 years.
"Tokowaka" means "to maintain a fresh, youthful appearance forever through repeated restoration," and it is symbolized by the "Shikinen-Sengu" ceremony performed every 20 years.
The Shikinen-Sengu is a ceremony held once every 20 years in which the deities move to a newly-built palace so they can remain forever youthful. This is the most important shrine ritual, and it has continued for over 1,300 years.
