Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten Shibuya
When Japanese want to refresh their bodies and minds, they often take a trip to a hot spring resort to bathe in the therapeutic waters. One such resort is Kinosaki Onsen, which is located in Hyogo Prefecture and has a history dating back around 1,300 years. Kinosaki Onsen features seven hot springs, each with different merits. Among them are Yanagi-yu, which is believed to promote pregnancy and easy childbirth, and Kono-yu, which is supposed to help bring happiness to a marriage and confer longevity.
If you stay at Kinosaki Onsen, you should certainly stay at a ryokan, which is a traditional type of inn. You will stay in a room with a tatami mat floor, and it will probably offer an amazing view. The warm hospitality at a ryokan is practically guaranteed, and the inns are fine places to learn about Japanese traditions.
As to the best time to visit Kinosaki Onsen, I would recommend autumn or spring. You will certainly enjoy wearing a yukata (casual cotton kimono), provided by each ryokan, and walking about the resort's streets dressed in traditional style.
