This playhouse was built by young gentlemen in 1910. It is still active, and many performances are given there now over 100 years later. Just like back in the day, the revolving stage and "suppon" stage lift are operated manually, and these are designated important cultural properties of Japan. When you pass through the entrance, it is as if you are stepping back in time to a place unlike the everyday world you know. On days when there are no performances, staff provide guided tours of the "Yachiyoza" interior (backstage) and the "Yumekogura" resource center. You will no doubt get a sense of the excitement felt there back in the Taisho and Meiji periods.
